ENL'S GEOGRAPHY
With offices in both St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador and Halifax, Nova Scotia, ENL’s core responsibility is to manage the Maritime Link. The Maritime Link is a key transmission asset including almost 400km of overhead HVDC lines and a pair of 170-kilometer sub-sea transmission spanning cables in the Cabot Straight. The Maritime Link alone provides approximately 20% of Nova Scotia’s electricity with power generated from the Muskrat Falls generating station in Labrador.
BRINGING THE MARITIME LINK TO LIFE
Spanning 170 kilometers underneath the Cabot Straight, the Maritime Link was a massive undertaking that required problem solving, hard work, and dedication from hundreds of people across Newfoundland & Labrador and Nova Scotia. It took an entire project team and over 5.3-million-person hours of work to complete the Link.
The Link was designed to provide clean, reliable, and renewable energy to Nova Scotia for 50 years and was a massive undertaking from everyone involved. Watch this video and learn more about how the Maritime Link went from the board room to reality!

HEAR MORE FROM OUR TEAM
"Emera is doing a lot of important work that is in line with my professional career goals and personal values surrounding climate change and energy affordability. I feel like I can come to work to be myself and be respected by everyone. I have consistently experienced senior leaders at Emera’s operating companies making the effort to coach and mentor younger employees."
James HVDC Engineer
"One of the most common things you’ll hear people say is that the people are what makes this such a great place to work. I was initially attracted to Emera because of the opportunities internally—although my professional designation is a CA, CPA, I always knew I did not want a career that focused solely on accounting and finance. I’ve been lucky enough to experience many aspects of the business since being here and even after more than 10 years, I’m still constantly learning."
Sarah Sr. Manager, Regulatory & Business Transformation
"Being a woman in a leadership role, and as a female engineer in a male dominated field, I have had the opportunity to reflect on the question—what does equity mean? Equity is about overcoming the barriers different people face in being successful. I'm continuously thinking about this as a leader— where we are on this journey towards gender equity, where we want to be and how we get there."
Anne-Marie Senior Director, Operations
"It is easy to be proud of being part of the ENL team—the performance of the team is second to none. We operate the Maritime Link to a standard that is world class and are leaders in HVDC links worldwide. Safety is the number 1 priority in everything that we do, and we have a strong safety culture across the whole organization."
